Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs Ivica Dacic stated that the police arrested S. M. (49) and G. K. (46) due to the existence of grounds for suspicion that they had committed numerous criminal acts.
Among the criminal acts are the illegal crossing of the state border and human trafficking.
"Members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Office for Combating Organized Crime of the UKP, in cooperation with the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Sombor, arrested S. M. (49) and G. K. (46) due to the existence of grounds for suspicion that they committed criminal acts, illegal crossing of the state border and human trafficking, as well as the illegal production, holding, carrying and trafficking of weapons and explosive materials," said Dacic.
It is suspected that, as members of a criminal group, for a long period of time, together with another, so far unknown person, they illegally transferred several persons, among whom were members of various organized criminal groups from the territory of the Republic of Serbia, Montenegro, Albania and Turkey, across the Danube to the territory of the Republic of Croatia, for the amount of around 5,000 euros per member of an organized criminal group.
"The search of the apartment and other premises used by the suspects revealed several firearms, semi-automatic rifles, ammunition of different calibers, as well as hand grenades, which, as is suspected, they planned to smuggle into the territory of the European Union. The suspects were detained for up to 48 hours and they will be brought to the competent prosecutor's office in Sombor with a criminal report," said Minister Dacic.
