Szijjártó warns on the hypocrisy in the EU: We are criticized from those who buy more and more Russian gas
Hungary will give up a reliable supply of energy at competitive prices only if it receives a better offer, and so far, no better proposal has been received to replace Russian energy, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said.
That ministry announced that at a press conference after the meeting of the Council of the European Union on trade issues in Brussels, Szijjártó said that Hungary insists that the procurement of energy sources should remain an exclusive national competence, MTI reported.
"So, we reject any attempt to influence how, from where and from whom we buy energy. It is a matter of national security and sovereignty. Security of energy supply is part of national security and we will not accept any interference in discussions on energy security issues," he said.
Szijjártó said that Hungary's experience with Russia is that the country is a "reliable supplier", adding that the policy of sanctions against Russia was marked by "great hypocrisy".
"Here in Brussels, we are constantly getting hammered for not disconnecting ourselves from the Russian energy supply system... But if you look at how Russian liquefied natural gas deliveries have increased, then you can see that, for example, France has increased its liquefied natural gas imports from Russia by 110 percent in six months. About 87 percent of the Russian liquefied natural gas that arrives in Western Europe goes to France, Belgium and Spain," Szijjártó added.
