Vučić on meeting Putin: "We'll have tête-à-tête meeting, its result is crucial to us"
Upon his arrival in Sochi, he addressed the public in Serbia. The meeting with Vučić is an unusual activity for Putin, who very rarely meets in private with other leaders, and that is why Vučić expressed his great gratitude to the Russian President.
"I want to thank President Putin for the respect he shows to Serbia, that is good news for our citizens," he said.
"The two of us will be alone, but it is much more important what we agree on," he said. To the comments of the critics that he went to Russia "just to take pictures", he said that he was not interested in their policy, which is just a policy of lies.
"Of course, if Putin were the one to decide, we would have finished those negotiations by now," Vucic said. President of Serbia said that Putin is the person who best understands the position of Serbia and that he counts on him the most.
"I believe in the friendship of President Putin, if you ask me who I count on the most in Russia, it is Putin. He has always been with Serbia," he said.
"Personal contact is based on respect for our countries, but also on the fact that we have known each other for a long time. I was in Sochi for the first time as Deputy Prime Minister in one of the most difficult meetings with Putin. When we returned to Serbia, I told Toma and Ivica that by the end of 2014, we have to pay off all debts and become a country that will build a system of trust with everyone. You must have clean accounts and Serbia does not owe anyone anything today. We pay off all our debts regularly", Vucic said.
Vučić said that in 18 meetings, as many as there were, he and Putin built a relationship of trust and understanding.
“I think we’ve built trust through the tough times we’ve been through and our relationship is such that when we say something to each other, then that’s the way it is,” he said.
"After Nikola Pasic, I am the first man to receive that Order of Merit, and I received it from Putin. I am very proud of that," Vucic said about the Order of Alexander Nevsky, which he received in 2019.
During his address from Sochi, President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, also spoke about the protests in front of the Presidency due to the Law on Expropriation and Rio Tinto.
In addition, Vučić thanked the citizens of Serbia for supporting his policy against the white plague. "There will be much better measures for the second child, we will come out with that in 15-20 days," he said.
"Mothers are real heroes, they bear all the burden. That's why big companies should have kindergartens, so that mothers can come and see their children, to make sure they are well. We will subsidize that. I have seen that in many countries, we have to do it now, we just need to figure out how to implement it”, Vucic concluded.
