Serbia is playing its first match on a World Cup today!
The status of Aleksandar Mitrović, who will probably start the match of the year on the bench, is still uncertain.Filip Kostic is also uncertain due to a muscle problem, but he did team training before the match against Brazil.
"I expect a good and brave Serbia against Brazil, we are ready for everything that awaits us, we worked well here," said the coach of the national football team Dragan Stojković Piksi at the press conference.
Under that name, Serbia will play for the third time at the World Championship, and for the 13th time in total, if we also count appearances as part of the Yugoslav national team. The Serbian team has not passed the group stage since 1998.
"Brazil is a great team and one of the best in the world and it is a golden generation of football players. Brazil has a chance to win, but we are not afraid of anyone in the world - not even Brazil," Stojković said and added that he will not "play defense" on anyone in particular.
The national team has played a total of 19 games against Brazil so far, won twice, seven games ended in a draw, and we lost in 10 matches.
"We never mark any player in particular. Vinicius, Raphinha, Neymar, they are all great, but I don't care how Brazil plays, my focus is on Serbia. We are not afraid of anyone, we have to be concentrated, smart, not run to mark everyone. It will be difficult, but it is possible to stop Brazil," Stojković is confident.
Captain Dušan Tadić said that Brazil is a great team, not only individually, but that the Serbian team focuses only on itself.
"However, our focus is on us, we try to play intelligent football. The Brazilians have won the title five times, that can motivate us, we just need to enjoy ourselves and the result will come," said Tadić.
According to him, he is sure that the experience from Russia will mean a lot. "Now we are in our best playing years, at the height of our careers. We just need to do the same as before and there won't be any problems," said Tadić.
In the second game in Group G, Switzerland will play against Cameroon from 11:00 a.m.
