It was wrong if they expected that Serbia start war over Kosovo. It did once and look how it ended. Kosovo will not be recognized, and hopefully their life will improve. This is the best achievement for a long time, so I think it is unfair to blame the Government and its representative for betrayal.

It was totally reasonable for a deal to include Belgrade law in north and pristina law everywhere else and Belgrade law in north is part of pristina law. But Serbia said no Belgrade law anywhere completely dictatorial power of pristina everywhere with no autonomy for Kosovo serbs.
It would be interesting to hear what Serbs outside of the North think (Rada Trajkovic?) about the deal. I would also appreciate to hear what are specific problems that people in the North think will arise from the agreement? So far, I heard that they are against having Kosovo documents, but this can be overcome by having also Serbian documents. I do not see practical consequences of Kosovo low application as this is anyway written by EU, as it is Serbian low as well. I understand that people would prefer status quo, but this is impossible. Status quo is not sustainable and is not on offer. On offer was this agreement (which is very good for Serbs considering how it could have been) or military action to forcefully take this territory. Don't forget that solders there are mostly from countries that recognised Kosovo as independent country so they can easily find a legal justification for such an action. You cannot say that Dacic did not try as he discussed issue with Putin few days ago. The fact that he has signed agreement after meeting Putin, tells all.

You claim UN recognized Serbian province, however, Serbia has gone to extremes to insist that the UN be status neutral, which means the UN does not recognize Kosovo as either an independent state nor a Serbian province.
The Serbs said they opposed the customs too but now always collect the customs and use the border checkpoints and everything. There is no opposition to this deal.
My feelings are mixed, to much time has been wasted in finding the right solution for this problem. What is better? To let KiM go into albanian hands and choose another way to fight for return, or stay stubborn and be guided by feelings which could lead us into something where is the point of no return. In my opinion this solution is more real the anything else.
Congratulations Danilo for your pragmatic and realistic aproach. If more people on both sides share the same approach, live of millions would improve. Regardless of the past, we have to share the same borders and live (hopefully in peace) side by side. Time on earth is short, let's try to improve our lives rather than spending it fighting each other. This agreement, though mediocre, it's historic because of a potential for a normalized relationship between Albanians and Serbs. I mean the Albanian Block in the Serbian parliament could become the strongest party, certainly the second-strongest considering their 1.5 million make up more than the 900 thousand that the top Serbian political parties get (SNS got 940 thousand last elections, DS 850 thousand . Serbs don't all vote for the same party, whereas Albanians most likely would in protest. There is no scenario under this scenario where you could make a government in Serbia without Albanian Block.

@Danilo: You are spot on. If I were Thaci, I would insist on a full integration with Serbia. This would mean that after the first election Hashim Thaci is PM of Srbia (at least a deputy PM). Considering demographics in 20 years time Serbs are minority, while in 50 years time nobody would know that Belgrade was a city where Serbs used to live.

For the past 14 years Albanians have been destroying Serbian churches, cemeteries, killing & driving Serbs from their homes right under the noses of the international community. Does anyone really think this agreement will reverse that? The agreement was signed by the leader of a terrorist organization for god's sake.

So, while you're wishing for those for this deal to go live "under Kosovo laws", the funny thing is that if Serbia somehow succeeded in absorbing Kosovo, people would be living under "Kosovo laws", except in Belgrade this time.

Well, when was the last truly reliable census in Kosovo? The world just accepts that USA officially prints that's all. Kosovo, Serbia, Greece, Albania will have as many people as USA wants. I have been living in a USA banana republic protectorate for most of my life (Greece), and the demographic statistics here were really funny : I remember in the 80s we were 8,000,000. My feelings are mixed, to much time has been wasted in finding the right solution for this problem. What is better? To let KiM go into albanian hands and choose another way to fight for return, or stay stubborn and be guided by feelings which could lead us into something where is the point of no return. In my opinion this solution is more real the anything else.

You claim UN recognized Serbian province, however, Serbia has gone to extremes to insist that the UN be status neutral, which means the UN does not recognize Kosovo as either an independent state nor a Serbian province.
It was wrong if they expected that Serbia start war over Kosovo. It did once and look how it ended. Kosovo will not be recognized, and hopefully their life will improve. This is the best achievement for a long time, so I think it is unfair to blame the Government and its representative for betrayal.
It was totally reasonable for a deal to include Belgrade law in north and pristina law everywhere else and Belgrade law in north is part of pristina law. But Serbia said no Belgrade law anywhere completely dictatorial power of pristina everywhere with no autonomy for Kosovo serbs.

No. What they are saying is the north will never be governed by the institutions in Pristina. The idea that all of Kosovo i Metohija is sovereign land belonging to the Republic of Serbia resonates with most Serbs.

The international politicians have forced Serbia to comply.
The locals will have to stand up for themselves.
Same as in RS where they are not being allowed to choose to be governed from Belgrade.
Serbs want to be able to live in economic normality. I would want Serbia not to sign and to remove itself from the numerous other chains that international law puts around country's necks, but the price would be poverty and isolation, which is something that people do not want - stronger even than the value they put on their national identities.

This agreement is 5 years late in coming. Who would have thought that it would be Nikolic's government who would have the guts to tell the residents of North kosovo that you cannot hold up the future of 8 million serbs in order to satisfy your nationalist wishes. We in Europe have a common future. Those who lead the Albanian majority will also one day face justice if they have committed any wrongs against any of their citizens irrespective of their ethnic origin. This is a giant leap forward for all the citizens of Serbia
@Danilo: You are spot on. If I were Thaci, I would insist on a full integration with Serbia. This would mean that after the first election Hashim Thaci is PM of Srbia (at least a deputy PM). Considering demographics in 20 years time Serbs are minority, while in 50 years time nobody would know that Belgrade was a city where Serbs used to live.

Congratulations Danilo for your pragmatic and realistic aproach. If more people on both sides share the same approach, live of millions would improve. Regardless of the past, we have to share the same borders and live (hopefully in peace) side by side. Time on earth is short, let's try to improve our lives rather than spending it fighting each other. This agreement, though mediocre, it's historic because of a potential for a normalized relationship between Albanians and Serbs. After centuries of conflict there's a possibility for peace between both nations, hence a more prosperous and peaceful Balkans.
It's stupid because the only kosovo law they will obey are judiciary and police (crime laws), which are probably the same as serbia's or eventially both will be the same like EU criminal laws, so it makes no difference really, it's just their fake pride that is driving this protest, that they can't be ruled by people they used to dispise and think they are superior over, i am neither on serbian or albanian side, but kosovo serbs are really selfish, the majority of serbs outside of kosovo are happy with the agreement and want to move on and become a normal country, and those people are protesting over obeying the law of kosovo province, augh for god sake, some people are just born stupid...
The Serbs said they opposed the customs too but now always collect the customs and use the border checkpoints and everything. There is no opposition to this deal.

I mean the Albanian Block in the Serbian parliament could become the strongest party, certainly the second-strongest considering their 1.5 million make up more than the 900 thousand that the top Serbian political parties get (SNS got 940 thousand last elections, DS 850 thousand . Serbs don't all vote for the same party, whereas Albanians most likely would in protest. There is no scenario under this scenario where you could make a government in Serbia without Albanian Block.
This is what the Kosovo je Srbija set are ultimately 'fighting' for. it's ridiculous.
It would be interesting to hear what Serbs outside of the North think (Rada Trajkovic?) about the deal. I would also appreciate to hear what are specific problems that people in the North think will arise from the agreement? So far, I heard that they are against having Kosovo documents, but this can be overcome by having also Serbian documents. I do not see practical consequences of Kosovo low application as this is anyway written by EU, as it is Serbian low as well. I understand that people would prefer status quo, but this is impossible. Status quo is not sustainable and is not on offer. On offer was this agreement (which is very good for Serbs considering how it could have been) or military action to forcefully take this territory. Don't forget that solders there are mostly from countries that recognised Kosovo as independent country so they can easily find a legal justification for such an action. You cannot say that Dacic did not try as he discussed issue with Putin few days ago. The fact that he has signed agreement after meeting Putin, tells all.
