Kind of interesting from a Biblical perspective Serbia a Christian nation is being demonized, destroyed and attacked by Islam from the East and secular anti-Christ EU from West. World leaders in my view have sold out to the fallen Cherub.Serbia will never deny Christ even if the price we pay is destruction. Lazar promised to fight for the kingdom of Christ in heaven and lose Kosovo-Metohija in this wicked world.Satan took Kosovo and it will be regained if it is Christ's will.

Wich is still better from public hanging of priests, nuns etc. What atheists did...Wel they no longer call them selves communists but try to hide in the westner river of atheism but we know who they (you) are...

If people want to belive they do,SPC never held any marathones for popularity, forced belivers to turn to orthodoxy or similar so I can honestly say that orthodoxy is the most socialy advanced religion. AND we do not have the education problem with atheists...Need I remind you of veronauka and gradjansko? In America, recently, atheist vs chatolics almost raged war since both sides wanted eather all kids to pray or to forbid prayers... Considering that here it's the other way around and that religious people are victims of atheism, thanks to communism, you shoud be grateful for the freedom you have. The only way to explain people such as you, that want to forbid religion of all shapes...... I already did, communist. Freedom for belief!

@Arn.Sweden,

Well said. When people usually ask questions such as why does God allow evil, or why did He create faulty human beings (he did not), it is usually because they have not delved into the basic Christian theological explanations. The fact that we are allowed free will, to choose both good and evil, and to reap the rewards of both, is the most brilliant thing that God could do to teach us very important life lessons, and to develop character in us...character which will last for all eternity. No pain = no gain.

Top Ten signs that break the Ten Commandments

Top Ten Signs You're a Fundamentalist Orthodox Christian.

10 - You vigorously deny the existence of thousands of gods claimed by other religions, but feel outraged when someone denies the existence of yours.

You shall have no other Gods before me. You shall not make yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the LORD your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and fourth generation of those who reject me.

What generation are you from?

9 - You feel insulted and "dehumanized" when scientists say that people evolved from other life forms, but you have no problem with the Biblical claim that we were created from dirt.

Your body will be buried in a casket and eaten and rot in dirt, if you are burned, some of your ashes will end up in the earth.

8 - You laugh at polytheists, but you have no problem believing in a Triune God.

You shall have no other Gods before me.

7 - Your face turns purple when you hear of the "atrocities" attributed to Allah, but you don't even flinch when hearing about how God/Jehovah slaughtered all the babies of Egypt in "Exodus" and ordered the elimination of entire ethnic groups in "Joshua" including women, children, and trees!

I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery; you shall have no other Gods before me.

The Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses ordered that all Hebrew born shall be killed; Moses lamented you have mocked God, through your own mouth you will see the first born of every Egyptian die.

6 - You laugh at Hindu beliefs that deify humans, and Greek claims about gods sleeping with women, but you have no problem believing that the Holy Spirit impregnated Mary, who then gave birth to a man-god who got killed, came back to life and then ascended into the sky.

You shall have no other Gods before me.

You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not acquit anyone who misuses his name.

5 - You are willing to spend your life looking for little loopholes in the scientifically established age of Earth (few billion years), but you find nothing wrong with believing dates recorded by Bronze Age tribesmen sitting in their tents and guessing that Earth is a few generations old.

4 - You believe that the entire population of this planet with the exception of those who share your beliefs -- though excluding those in all rival sects - will spend Eternity in an infinite Hell of Suffering. And yet consider your religion the most "tolerant" and "loving."

You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not acquit anyone who misuses his name.

3 - While modern science, history, geology, biology, and physics have failed to convince you otherwise, some idiot rolling around on the floor speaking in "tongues" may be all the evidence you need to "prove" Christianity.

You shall not steal;

Only a great creator can create a universe so perfect, from the gravitational forces that govern the Earth, the Direct and Alternative currents to the precise rotation of the earth, moon and sun. God spoke let there be light, so there was light.

2 - You define 0.01% as a "high success rate" when it comes to answered prayers. You consider that to be evidence that prayer works. And you think that the remaining 99.99% FAILURE was simply the will of God.

Some will even pray for you.

1 - You actually know a lot less than many atheists and agnostics do about the Bible, Christianity, and church history - but still call yourself a Christian.

What good comes from Kosovo, Albania and the rest of the muslim world?
How many lives have albanian drugsmugglers ended/ruined by being the main supplier of drugs to Europe? There is too much chauvanism, ridicule, and intolerance in the comments sections here...sad.

I converted to Christianity rather late in life after much soul searching. Despite a career in academia, and a focus on the sciences and humanities, in the eyes of my peers, I took the seemingly "illogical" step to believe in the Jewish carpenter from Nazareth. The gospel (as it is refered to in Christian circles), when it is analyzed with regards to the life, death, and resurrection of Christ, is a powerful antedote to nihilism, skepticism, agnosticm, and atheism. While science deals with the observable, faith in Christ requires living in the Spirit: a reality no less real than other intangibles such as love or hate which are beyond the realm of science. Science does not provide the answers for life; relationship with the eternal God does.

I have seen true Chritianity practiced at times and in certain places, and I know how to distinguish between the evils committed in Christ's name (ie the Crusades), and true Christianity as displayed when a Christian doctor leaves his lucrative practive in the west to minister to the poor in the third world. It is unfortunate that there are some here who generalize and condemn all of Christendom for the sins of the few.

With open eyes, even in today's evil world, the presence of Christ can be witnessed and experienced. You need an open and unbiased heart to do so however.

Stefan

pre 13 godina

The definition of whether a person is "religious" or not is purely subjective, and is different from person to person. In my opinion, that's the essence and core of religion and faith - it's about the personal bond between the person and the deity they choose to believe in, whether it be the Judeo-Christian God, Buddha, a Hindu God etc. From what I can see (living in a secular country, with an underlying Christian majority), the modern day church's primary activities aren't really in ensuring that all members of the parish are praying at certain times, in a certain manner, are fasting to the exact word of the Bible, aren't having sex etc. but are more in assisting local communities with certain problems, whether they be social, ethical, financial - whatever. I mean, not that they never did that previously, but it just seems that the modern-day church is far more of a social institution used to power the community, rather than a separate body which regulated the way in which a large proportion of the population lived.

As such, people's own opinions on faith are much more diverse than they used to be. Certain individuals are pretty liberal in their interpretation of religious texts, even though they continue to possess a faith and trust in a deity (like myself, for example), and you still have those who choose to follow the Bible, word-by-word, for moral guidance and support. Similarly, an individual's opinion on whether they're religious or not is also diverse. I'm a baptised Orthodox Christian - I abstain from all food on Good Friday, Christmas Eve, the 27th of September and the 18th of January, I wear a crucifix around my neck, and even have one of those ornate, wooden Orthodox crosses hanging around the rear-view mirror of my car (I don't rip my friends off when I'm driving them, though... Danilo). But having said that, I also drink alcohol, swear, curse, have sex even though I'm not married etc. but I'd still term myself as religious since, by and large, I still treat people with respect and dignity, am honest and reasonable, and still have faith in God.

Contrast me with an older, more conservative woman who reads the bible every day, fasts according to traditional Orthodox dietary customs, goes to church every Sunday, and prays bi-daily. We're both "religious", but in completely disparate ways. Hence, I doubt that 95% of Serbians go to church every Sunday or believe in God in the same way as one another. But, 'tis refreshing to see that, after such a long period of communism, faith and trust in religion still remains to such a high level, in contrast to places like Latvia and the Czech Republic, where you now have more full-blown Atheists than even secular Christians.

They are by far the most socially-aware nation. In the Serbian heart there is a treasure of gold, and this i have observed in many many occasions. The same i have observed in many other Slavic nations. BUT, and this a big but, Serbs-Slavs have a terrible drawback, that holds them back. They are overly sensitive, proud which sometimes leads to arrogance and jealousy. If they were better organized they would not have to be afraid of anything (which leads to) being jealous. But, loose structures and discipline have that final effect. OTOH, i would not want Serbs to be like Germans, French -> cold blooded, rude, and socially stupid.

SCP the way I understood it is that Danilo made the claim that taxi drivers that have a cross dangling under their rear view mirror are more likely to cheat a customer.

You spoke of religious taxi drivers. I'd say that just because somebody has a cross in their taxi does not make them religious and that just because somebody doesn't have one, does not make them atheist.

I have taken numerous taxi journeys in Serbia and my experience is that those with crosses are no more or less trustworthy than the others.

As for the story its not accurate. Even those that really are religious won't know 95% of people that are also religious. For every 10 people, that is over 9 of them are religious.

The statistics are wrong.

I also think its interesting that these statistics appear just before the census is completed. A number of people have said that when government workers come to their homes, if one says he doesn't practice religion or wants to put atheist in the box, the box is left blank.
Others say that when they are uncertain what to put, they are advised by government workers, which is illegal.

What that blank box is counted as later on is disputible. However, whether it is counted as 'did not reply' or something else it will make Serbs look more religious than they really are.

Frankly to be less religious is a blessing. I find most people who are of any faith and believe in it fervently, do so, not out of genuine belief in God, but because they afraid of Hell. Essentially they are trying to trick their way into Heaven!! There's faith and then there's hard core logic. Whilst without God there'd have been no civilizations to speak of (thats how they all started, a monument here, a tribute there), truth is, once we look at history, we find that most conflicts have come about due to beliefs in a Deity, especially in the last 2000 years or so. One does not need need to believe in God to have good morals. All you need is common sense.

@Arn.Sweden,

This article brings a smile to my face. Here in America, the most sensible people are generally atheists. This is because the religious right in this country completely distort the teachings of Christ because all the branches of Christianity here are so watered down and revisionist. These pseudo Christian sects are a bigger threat to our religion than Islam and Judaism combined.

Serbs stay true to your faith. The next few years the world will be changing, protests in the West leave our Albanians in our south worried that their biggest guarantor of theft will have bigger issues to deal with.

OTOH, i would not want Serbs to be like Germans, French -> cold blooded, rude, and socially stupid.

pre 13 godina

Nema krsta bez tri prsta!

Stay close with God and his son Jesus and nothing will stop us from making Kosovo.. all of Kosovo our cultural and spiritual capital once again.

Stefan

pre 13 godina

You really have barely any knowledge on Orthodox Christianity.

LOL no he doesn't since he took an existing list of Top 10 Signs You're a Fundamentalist Christian, and just added the word "Orthodox". Orthodox spend more time being angry at Catholics and Muslims than polytheists :)
