This is sad news for Serbia. I always keep repeating that independence is irreversible and recognition by Serbia should occur as soon as possible to enable Belgrade integrate into western world especially in the EU and NATO. Russia is weak and fragile and NOT even Serbs trust them.

Anyways, for some funny Serbs this could be interpret it as:

Obama lost the golden opportunity to have lunch with Mr. Tadic. The USA politics is at fault, not Serbia's!!???

Obama will likely regret of not being able to met Tadic.

Serbia will likely be joined in the boycott of the summit by Romania and Slovakia, two of the five EU countries from the region that have refused to recognize Kosovo.

This whole recognition business has been fairly costly to European and especially South Eastern European unity considering a few influential countries in the region will boycott the summit for the sake of what is largely a criminal and mafia entity. Oh well, that is the price of short sightedness. The situation has become worse since the UDI as prior to that there was an agreement in place that everyone adhered to.

When it comes to Romania you should know that they accept Kosovo passport so they have nothing against Kosovo. They are just afraid of Transylvania.

I still wondering how naive and superficial are most of the comentators here in this forum. Even in most democratic countries, when it comes to state policy, prepare very carefully any news. What is not clear in the article and many comentators do not understand is that Tadic and any other politician in Serbia is strongly advised, if not threatened by Russians not to participate to such meetings. The intiative of US to meet CEE countries is to tighten the relationship and maintain them on EU/US side. For Russians and Serbia Kosovo is the best excuse not to participate. But this is not the real reason. I am not saying it is good or bad for Serbia to rely only on Russia. It is their decision. But at least do not take your electors for stupid.

Something is amiss here. The Eastern Partnership summit scheduled originally for May 27-28th in Budapest has been rescheduled for later in the year in Warsaw due to a conflict with the G-8 summit in France. Obama is scheduled to be in Poland on the 27th but no mention in his itinerary about speaking at a summit. The only place on Google can I find any mention of a summit is here in B92. Could it be that Tadic is boycotting a meeting that is not even taking place to look good for the Serbs at home.

You are listening too often to your FM Jeremic, who is propagating this since he is in the government, starting under the nationalist Kostunica, during whose reign Serbia's very contested "constitution" was accepted. The influence of the in the nineties based RTS-propaganda is still confusing Serbia's policy. Serbia's role could be more important, if it lets off from it's false claims on Kosovo. No one, except maybe for Russia, will care or make a deal out of the fact that the region's trouble-maker is absent on this summit.

Well said Niall, i couldnt agree more with your sentiments. Tadic, in my opinion, is playing a very shrewd hand. By standing firm on his Kosovo stance he is ensuring renewed support from voters in Serbia, vital with upcoming elections. He is maintaining very strong relations with Russia and China who neither support the Albanian UDI. On top of this, I feel he showing himself to be a very determined and principled politician. There are many western politicians that could do well to take a page from his book. He is moving Serbia towards EU membership whilst resisting very strong pressure to recognise the K Alb UDI. I, for one, wish him every success.

Isn't that more a Serbian trait? Serbs take a few words out of 1244 to say that it guarantees Kosovo is Serbia, when the whole document itself spells how Serbia has no power or control over Kosovo.

If it’s true that Romania’s non-participation is a support for Serbia, it’s one thing; if that’s false, it’s another thing. For example Romania’s delegation may not participate because the aircraft they were flying in had a technical problem and had to go back to Bucharest. I’m not sure what fraction of a volume that speaks… So normal people don’t say regardless of what the truth is. But, as I said, that’s a usual thing of yours so I’m not making it a big deal…

If this were serious, teams from the US State Department would have already visited each country in advance to hash out the issues (i.e. what the U.S. expects of its partners), but there is little evidence of this apart from the 'important' countries like Poland & Romania (missile attack).

I still wondering how naive and superficial are most of the comentators here in this forum. Even in most democratic countries, when it comes to state policy, prepare very carefully any news. What is not clear in the article and many comentators do not understand is that Tadic and any other politician in Serbia is strongly advised, if not threatened by Russians not to participate to such meetings. The intiative of US to meet CEE countries is to tighten the relationship and maintain them on EU/US side. For Russians and Serbia Kosovo is the best excuse not to participate. But this is not the real reason. I am not saying it is good or bad for Serbia to rely only on Russia. It is their decision. But at least do not take your electors for stupid.

Did find a listing in the Washington Post about Obama having dinner with several leaders of Central and Eastern Europe Friday evening, but still no listing on the summit or its itinerary.

For some Serbs that continue their old phrases like parrots: "Kosovo is Mafia and criminal country" just read your own press. Serbia i sa main exporter of criminals and Gangs. Serbian criminals are being flushed out from Drug infested jungles of South America and rounded up all over Europe.I guess some old habits are hard to brake. After loosing Kosovo where they committed crimes at will sponsored by the Serbian government they had to move somewhere else.

Right on Tadic. Without the biggest and by far most important country in the Balkans, the summit will be nothing worth.

You missed the big issue here. Whilst Serbia continues to crack down on criminals which obviously exist, KiM Albanians continue to support criminals who in fact form the government in "Kosova". That is the the big issue, you guys are run by criminals and your whole entity is mafia infested. You can keep blaming Serbia for your problems but you really only have yourselves to blame.

Boycott ? only here i have heard of this...we will see in a few days ... but i suspect of the usual propaganda machine...

Well said Niall, i couldnt agree more with your sentiments. Tadic, in my opinion, is playing a very shrewd hand. By standing firm on his Kosovo stance he is ensuring renewed support from voters in Serbia, vital with upcoming elections. He is maintaining very strong relations with Russia and China who neither support the Albanian UDI. On top of this, I feel he showing himself to be a very determined and principled politician. There are many western politicians that could do well to take a page from his book. He is moving Serbia towards EU membership whilst resisting very strong pressure to recognise the K Alb UDI. I, for one, wish him every success.

Regardless if that is true or not...

Your opinion about Kosovo has been consistent, I have to admit, because of your hatred toward over 90% of Kosovo population is obvious.Having said that you fail to acknowledge that other countries arrested Serbian criminals that you are crediting Serbia with.If Albanian narc gangs were so abundant as you want us to believe, you would see the same arrests all over the world.On contrary, Albanians are known for hard work and entrepreneurship establishing respectful businesses worldwide.
Kosovo is run by freedom fighters that are accepted in corridors of power everywhere. We have a problem with corruption just like you are and other countries in Balkans, including some like Greece, Romania and Bulgaria that are already members of EU.

Isn't that more a Serbian trait? Serbs take a few words out of 1244 to say that it guarantees Kosovo is Serbia, when the whole document itself spells how Serbia has no power or control over Kosovo.

If it’s true that Romania’s non-participation is a support for Serbia, it’s one thing; if that’s false, it’s another thing. For example Romania’s delegation may not participate because the aircraft they were flying in had a technical problem and had to go back to Bucharest. I’m not sure what fraction of a volume that speaks… So normal people don’t say regardless of what the truth is. But, as I said, that’s a usual thing of yours so I’m not making it a big deal…
