This is the nub of it. NATO turned what was a low level conflict into an all out civil war. The rebels now refuse to a ceasefire, why should they, they have NATO fighting for them. Ang Gaddafi just digs his heels in. What could have been solved by negotiation has now become all or nothing. Has the humanitarian situation in Libya improved? The sheer recklessness of the political leaders so they can win a few votes is mindboggling. And a new Srebrenica? Benghazi isn't a UN safe haven used as a platfrom for attack.

What a coincidence that Hilly comes out with these comments which aim to demonise Serbs the same day that Gotovina gets put away for crimes against Serbs in Croatia.

If the West had not of intervened, thousands and thousands of Libyans would have died in a backlash by Gaddafi. With the West intervening to stop Gadaffi from doing this, possibly hundreds of civilians will die as collateral damage. This is why Western involvement is the lesser of two evils... plus we get oil out of it. But then again, had the West not intervened and let Gadaffi do his business, Gadaffi would start to sell oil to the West again. So we would have had oil either way.
(Ian, UK, 17 April 2011 11:13)

Last time they tried that (Kosovo) they ended up killing around 3 Civilians to every Soldier and more Serb civilians then Albanian civilians that the Yugoslav army ever killed, Its just a war, Gaddafi isnt deliberately killing civilians (and just as much as I hate gaddafi) the rebels are just as bad, there using child soldiers in their ranks and chances are they're doing exactly the same things as gaddafis men (just proves theres no good and bad side), go tell nato its not their buisness, they dont care about the libyan people, they only want oil.

Szemi,

Unfortunately you like me did not prove anything to the nazis-at-heart (Roberto and Joe). All you did is prove again that they are who they are. Nothing new.

BTW: neither added anything to the topic. One created a long insane essay with "Serbs are evil" topic and Joe slipped a few nazi-style comments under the radar of B92. What a surprise. Losers.

On this I must agree with you.And since your daily contribution is nothing else but ill will ,envy and backbiting you have never got respected .

As for people over 60 and working, contributing members of society: you, who is not working and "get by" in life, you should be
the very last one to criticize them. People get respected in a society by their daily contribution and not by their age. This is valide for Poles too.

senkiházi köcsög

Joe since you have already spent almost 4 decades in an english speaking country it would be a good form to be familiar with basic grammar and spelling rules at least. So if you have not know so far the meaning of english word guy is fickó or ürge in hungarian and not buzi.
But as it is well known both your english and hungarian are quite poor.Lack of good childhood education and will power I guess. No wonder you still have to wash dishes over 60 in order to make both ends meet.No one would employ such an uneducated person at any normal place.Succesful americans at your age are self employed anyway. So am I BTW. You would never be self-employed since you have not enough balls to take risk and be your own master. So all your life you must do what the others order. As to the middle east I do not suppose you to know that there are several christians among palestinains as well as christain armenians and greek in lebanon who were victims of agressive israeli war machine recently and not only muslims.Otherwise I like women and try to treat them well.I do not want them to have a stressful life besides me and develope some serious disease like cancer for example.

As a lengyel buzi (Polish guy) you never displayed any logic or consistency in your comments. Nobody is supposed to read other people's mind. Didn't you learn in school to express your toughts clearly? As for those christians killed recently in the Middle East they were killed by your Arab friends whom you support so fulheartedly. Can you be logical just for one day?
As for the catholics of eastern rite you display the hypocrisy of so many Poles. True christians display tolerance toward other faiths. But with the catholics of eastern rite we are not even talking about an other faith because they are part of the catholic church and the pope is their spiritual leader. The Poles never displayed any tolerance toward the many millions of orthodox Ukrainians and Belo-Russians either while those orthodox were part of Poland before WWII. They were discriminated by Poles, who were christians only on paper.
As for people over 60 and working, contributing members of society: you, who is not working and "get by" in life, you should be
the very last one to criticize them. People get respected in a society by their daily contribution and not by their age. This is valide for Poles too.

What I'd like to know is who seriously believes in this rubbish? Ian, Joe and our Albanian friends here? Please confirm as I would really like to know whether you guys find it difficult taking authority as the truth rather than truth as authority.

NATO justifies this war as protecting civilians but in the process continues to kill civilians. This is another Arab country with oil and we all know how oil is a prized commodity these days.

Why compare this to Srebrenica instead of the Dasht-i-Leili massacre in 2001? Because US troops were involved in the Dasht-i-Leili massacre where thousands of Afghani POWs were murdered? One eye witness claimed he counted 8000 POWs (watch video below).
[link]
[link]
And the video -> [link]

And I read today about Gaddafi using cluster bombs. I quote:
Libya has not signed up to an international ban on cluster bombs but Mr Abrahams said their indiscriminate nature meant they were nevertheless "a violation of the rule of war".

And we have a report how NATO cluster bombs killed 15 Serbians in a hospital and crowded market. Oh, the US is not a signatory to the international ban on cluster bombs either, is it? What happened to dialogue?
(Zoran, 16 April 2011 14:54)

I think Mrs Clinton is a fool. I think it is absolutely ridiculous to compare it to Srebrenica because the situation in Bosnia is completely different to the situation in Libya. I honestly believe that if the West had not of intervened in Libya there would have been a serious backlash by Gadaffi once he had retaken the East. There would have been numerous vengeance killings in at least five figures. Gadaffi would have wanted to punish the rebels in the east and to make sure it doesn't happen again by crushing them. However to compare it to Srebrenica is just absurd. What happened at Srebrenica was due to ethnic tensions, racial and religious hate ect. Completely different to what is going on in Libya, where it is purely political differences.

I also think it is unfair to compare it to Srebrenica, it seems that she is deliberately drawing attention to it because she has some sort of an agenda where she wants to give Serbs a bad name. What happened at Srebrenica was committed by a very small minority of Serbs and it is unfair to associate this incident with all Serbs and Serbia as a whole, like Clinton is implying. Just as it is wrong to associate the Dasht-i-Leili massacre with all Americans (a maximum of 3,000 deaths is a more realistic figure btw).

I think that by claiming that the West "stopped a new Srebrenica", she is somehow trying to romanticise the Western Intervention.

The military aggression on Libya didn't prevent anything. Instead it has prolonged a conflict that would already be over if it wasn't for the NATO "humanitarian" intervention. The African Union negotiated a peace agreement and Gadafi signed it. But the NATO-backed rebels refused to sign the peace agreement. If they would not have been backed by NATO they would have signed and the conflict would be over. NATO intervention prolongs the conflict and thousands of civilians are now dying because of the NATO intervention. Epic Fail!

Karanovic

pre 13 godina

Ivan, your comment is as hateful as usual and empty of any facts or objectivity. Most Serbs moved to the US after the turn of the 20th century from Bosankska Krajina and other Austro-Hungarian lands. The other large group came to America after Tito's communist-murderers took power from the legitimate monarchy after the war. A far smaller wave came during and after the 1990s war because of their cleansing from Croatia. So, Serbs came to America, for the most part, because of economic and social reasons in the early part of the last century when America was not a global, aggressive hegemon which harbors bad feelings towards Serbia and Serbs. They also came because they didn't want to to live under Communist criminals at a time that America was still a somewhat trustworthy ally against fascism. Only a part came after the US turned into an enemy of the Serb people. What else can you expect of people that need to find refuge when Croats are tossing them out of their homes (see the latest Hague judgement if you have problems with those facts).

"In a single week, we prevented a potential massacre, stopped an advancing army (loyal to Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi) and expanded the coalition," Clinton said.

It is always the same problem with crazed, fascist dictators: once they begin to spiral out of control, once they realize there is no exit strategy but the hereafter (and that's pretty shaky for these types), then there's no alternative but to butcher people, the "enemy," their own, whomever. it is a classic pattern, and gaddafi is just one more.

he'll go down, but not before a LOT more blood. we may be preventing a huge massacre (ala srebrenica), but we are surely not preventing the killing of innocent people.

nato countries have somehow managed to remain allied on this, more or less, which they did NOT when it came to bosnia; thus the easy 100,000 dead, though i believe there were many more. we allowed bosnia to be destroyed, on so many levels. now demagogue do-dik and the pro-western-pro-democratic blgd regime just try to wrap up the milosevic/karadzic/mladic project, as we (the internationals) look on dumbly. as those "nice" serbian diaspora nationalists cheer on the fascists from afar. oh what a pretty balkan picture.

and putin-russia does what it always does, no surprises there.

and as for that nice mr mladic -- oh yes, remember yesterday when all of those kind, thoughtful nationalists were going on, and on, and on about the croatian-sponsored war crimes in 1995? and abusing and murdering civilians IS a war crime, especially if done so knowingly. altho the nationalists conveniently forgot to mention all of the ethnic cleansing perpetrated by serbian fascist forces throughout croatia (not to mention bosnia!!)that lead up to "storm" -- but nevermind, why split hairs?

then there was that "minor" ethnic cleansing of kosovar albanians from kosova in 1999, nearly 1 million terrorized and deported from their homeland, at least 12,000 killed. somehow they forgot to mention that also, just focusing on serb victims. and yes, there were serb victims, also victimized by the policies of milosevic and his willing executioners... let's just be honest, people, for once.

so you still have the situation (confirmed, on the ground, by everyone we spoke with in belgrade 2 weeks ago, including one of their mp's)of that nice mr. mladic being harbored and sheltered by the belgrade regime. i'm not talking about that "meek" mr kostunica, we all know what he's about. i'm talking about the tadic/jeremic regime. they knowingly harbor an international fugitive, the worst mass murderer since ww2. and that's saying a lot! so what does that make them?!

and now, yes, back to the belgrade press. OMG, what a shock when i saw, after many years, one ENTIRE article dedicated to our friend sonia biserko, a woman for whom i have such great admiration. and here all this time i claimed there was an unwritten rule by their press: biserko is never to be mentioned! so the rule was (temporarily) broken. but then again, she had to LEAVE serbia and address the eu body, in order to get noticed. otherwise, nada.

meanwhile, we are still waiting, day by day, for a real exhumation of the mass grave site at Raska (it's been nearly one year now since eulex provided the detailed information). not to mention an open investigation into the mass burnings of albanian bodies by serb terror forces at trepca, mackatica and possibly other sites in spring of 1999. ancient history, eh people?

What about the anti-armor Tomahawk cruise missiles fitted with depleted uranium war heads that NATO and US,UK & French planes have been firing against targets including the Libyan capital of Tripoli? This means that thousands of kilos of depleted uranium have been used in Libya in the past weeks.

If the West had not of intervened, thousands and thousands of Libyans would have died in a backlash by Gaddafi. With the West intervening to stop Gadaffi from doing this, possibly hundreds of civilians will die as collateral damage. TRIPOLI, BRUSSELS -- U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says that the world has prevented a massacre of the sort seen in Srebrenica in 1995 through the intervention in Libya.

Since you are constantly bringing up the past, you could have just as easily used Waco to demonstrate your point,or better yet the Rwanda Massacre. A little to close to home, perhaps?
You should've used the Kent State Massacre example, since it's the best example of how hypocrite governments treat their own peaceful student demonstrators. Should I dare mention Philadelphia? Nazi Germany? Operation Storm in Croatia?

"In a single week, we prevented a potential massacre, stopped an advancing army (loyal to Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi) and expanded the coalition," Clinton said.

It is always the same problem with crazed, fascist dictators: once they begin to spiral out of control, once they realize there is no exit strategy but the hereafter (and that's pretty shaky for these types), then there's no alternative but to butcher people, the "enemy," their own, whomever. it is a classic pattern, and gaddafi is just one more.

he'll go down, but not before a LOT more blood. we may be preventing a huge massacre (ala srebrenica), but we are surely not preventing the killing of innocent people.

nato countries have somehow managed to remain allied on this, more or less, which they did NOT when it came to bosnia; thus the easy 100,000 dead, though i believe there were many more. we allowed bosnia to be destroyed, on so many levels. now demagogue do-dik and the pro-western-pro-democratic blgd regime just try to wrap up the milosevic/karadzic/mladic project, as we (the internationals) look on dumbly. as those "nice" serbian diaspora nationalists cheer on the fascists from afar. oh what a pretty balkan picture.

and putin-russia does what it always does, no surprises there.

and as for that nice mr mladic -- oh yes, remember yesterday when all of those kind, thoughtful nationalists were going on, and on, and on about the croatian-sponsored war crimes in 1995? and abusing and murdering civilians IS a war crime, especially if done so knowingly. altho the nationalists conveniently forgot to mention all of the ethnic cleansing perpetrated by serbian fascist forces throughout croatia (not to mention bosnia!!)that lead up to "storm" -- but nevermind, why split hairs?

then there was that "minor" ethnic cleansing of kosovar albanians from kosova in 1999, nearly 1 million terrorized and deported from their homeland, at least 12,000 killed. somehow they forgot to mention that also, just focusing on serb victims. and yes, there were serb victims, also victimized by the policies of milosevic and his willing executioners... let's just be honest, people, for once.

so you still have the situation (confirmed, on the ground, by everyone we spoke with in belgrade 2 weeks ago, including one of their mp's)of that nice mr. mladic being harbored and sheltered by the belgrade regime. i'm not talking about that "meek" mr kostunica, we all know what he's about. i'm talking about the tadic/jeremic regime. they knowingly harbor an international fugitive, the worst mass murderer since ww2. and that's saying a lot! so what does that make them?!
their supporters?

and now, yes, back to the belgrade press. OMG, what a shock when i saw, after many years, one ENTIRE article dedicated to our friend sonia biserko, a woman for whom i have such great admiration. and here all this time i claimed there was an unwritten rule by their press: biserko is never to be mentioned! so the rule was (temporarily) broken. but then again, she had to LEAVE serbia and address the eu body, in order to get noticed. otherwise, nada.

i mentioned to sonia, when we were there: you are persona non grata on b92 -- utterly marginalized (while they still find the time to push the dick marty SMEAR report, three times a day!!) she didn't even bat an eyelash: "Not only b-92, but the rest of the media here as well" (with the exception of Pescanik and e-novine). so that is the sad state of affairs of the belgrade media, with that one teeny exception.

meanwhile, we are still waiting, day by day, for a real exhumation of the mass grave site at Raska (it's been nearly one year now since eulex provided the detailed information). not to mention an open investigation into the mass burnings of albanian bodies by serb terror forces at trepca, mackatica and possibly other sites in spring of 1999. ancient history, eh people?

getting back to gaddafi, he is an evil piece, and the sooner we are thru with him and his family, the better for humanity.

thanks, and tung!

This is what one calls propaganda and not substantiated reporting. There is no verification before such news make the headlines on several news outlets across the world.

I understand that Misrata is the epicentre of a civil war between the Libyan rebels and Gaddafi forces and we've heard many claims and anti-claims todate and iam certain we'll hear the same in the days to come.

What about the anti-armor Tomahawk cruise missiles fitted with depleted uranium war heads that NATO and US,UK & French planes have been firing against targets including the Libyan capital of Tripoli? This means that thousands of kilos of depleted uranium have been used in Libya in the past weeks.

I think the West should send a message to Gaddafi telling him that only the good guys ( Nato,Israel) are allowed to use cluster bombs and nobody else.

My congratulations dear öreg fing(old dude). So you still belive in that primitive propaganda first used by Hitler and then by Stalin. That tells a lot about your state of my mind.An old dissilussioned easily brainwashable dude.No wonder that on this forum the only thing you do is reapiting mainstream brainwashing american media in a very amateur way.Anyway if that story was true even those horses would have had more common with cristianity than the bishops and priests(rather clowns and pawns) of aritificially created Habsburg lackey greco-roman church.Otherwise try to improve your comprehension although it is very difficult for someone over 60 coming from dark Szabolcs county but give it a try.Where did I write about poles in my comment for example. What if I had on my mind those christians who were killed in the middle east recantly?

"rebels refused to sign the peace agreement"
Rizovski

So you expected them to sign their own death warrant? Are you so naive?
It is a shame that your love of your brother Gaddafi is stronger than the live of tens of thousands of Lybians.

"Where did I write about poles in my comment for example. What if I had on my mind those christians who were killed in the middle east recantly?"
polsky buzi

On this I must agree with you.And since your daily contribution is nothing else but ill will ,envy and backbiting you have never got respected .

Losers.

What a coincidence that Hilly comes out with these comments which aim to demonise Serbs the same day that Gotovina gets put away for crimes against Serbs in Croatia.

Well said Roberto. Fascists cheer fascists.

Yeah Joe, they were misunderstood tree hugging hippies.
