RE: Quebec and the FLQ Crisis-1970

You are mistaken, of course there are parallels, the French in Quebec are indiginous to Canada in addition to the British and Native Indians and to a lesser extent other European nations. Quebec aspriations for independance failed twice through refereandums and the issue has not been in the top of the Canadian agenda for a few year's.

The FLQ or Fronte De Liberation of Quebec was similiar in some ways to the KLA advocating violence and did kidnap prominant Canadian politicians as well as killing some RCMP officers. The Prime Minister of Canada at the time Pierre Elliot Trudeau, ( A Quebecer himself) moved swiftly, called martial law and many arrests were made breaking the movement.

The founding nation of Serbia is Kosovo and Methohia, not Albania. Albania does not have a founding nation as the history is mixed in with the Ottoman Turks. To justify the Albanian nomadic and clan existance, they have taken ownership of Illyrian history.

My parents came to Canada because back in the 60's Canada was enticing europeans to relocate.

My parents came to Canada with the scottish, english, irish, italian, german and so on...

maybe those other enthicities should return to europe as well.

Anyways, you have incorrect facts about Serbians and Serbs.

Serbians are Serbia's citizens and Serbs are ethnic Serbians.

Therefore, i will remind you that Serbia has plenty of Serbians on their territory.

For example:

How about Kosovo!!!!!
(Another Canadian Serb, 17 February 2011 17:11)

I never said anyone should return. I don't think Canadians of Serbian decent should return, I was just questioning what you said about Serbia and it being to good too leave. People immigrate from every country in the world.

Also I never disagreed with you about Serbians being citizens of Serbia and Serbs being an ethnic group.

I wonder home many people in Kosovo have Serbian citizenship? Obviously everyone is entitled to it however it doesn't necessarily make the Serbian citizens. Take Northern Ireland for example, all people from Northern Ireland are entitled to British and Irish citizenship, it doesn't mean that all are British or Irish citizens. How many people in Kosovo do you think have been born in Kosovo since the war in 1999 and have registered with Serbian institutions? How many people do you think have denounced their citizenship? How many people have registered births, deaths and marriages with Serbian institutions? Passport, driving licence, other ID etc. You should read up on Nationality law.

if ACS's parents came to canada 50 years ago then they left YUGOSLAVIA, a nation that was run by TITO JOSIP BROZ at that time. A communist and a Croat. 50 years ago Yugoslavia was the brilliant gem that made both the west and the east envious.
So ACS's parents left, not Serbia, but Yugoslavia.
And, not if ACS had children, they would be 2nd gen Canadians. They would not be immigrants, but if they wanted school in their parent's language is that appropriate? i mean they wouldn't have "moved" there. so, if all of you natives to kosovo complain that while kosovo was in yugoslavia you wanted/needed language schools in your parent's language, why? why not just accept the offical language of the nation that you were living in (serbo-croatian) and not complain.
i suppose i could even ask my local school district to offer full school systems in my parent's language for my children.

Zoran

Don't know what all the fuss is about. I returned from the West, where I lived practically all my life, to Serbia.

Of course it's not the perfect country and it has its problems, especially after being under sanctions for so long and bombed by an aggression pact (NATO).

However, considering everything, the country continues to progress at light speed. It is probably the most multi-ethnic country in the region and accepted as such by most citizens. There are thriving businesses in Belgrade run by Croatians, Albanians, Hungarians, Muslims and others. These people don't hide their ethnicity and people accept them.

Multi-ethnicity is alive and well in Serbia. We have recently heard how it has failed by many Western leaders in their countries but we don't hear about that in Serbia.

I know many Serbians that have returned and there is something very special about this country. There is a special kindness in the way we respect and love our children, neighbours and family. That is something we need to hold dear within our culture and pass on through the generations.

Those people who only focus on the bad aspects of Serbia obviously have an agenda to follow but just ignore them. All ex-pats I've spoken to in Belgrade love the place so we are on the right track.

Canadian Serb, if I would be an Albanian, I would leave Serbia, like you and your family apparently did already (I wonder why, if Serbia is such a good place?). Albanians are second ranking citizens in Serbia, so better to leave or to separate, like the Kosovars did. Discrimination of non-Serbs is daily practice in Serbia. And if you ask for proof, your departure to Canada is the best proof. If Serbia had been so good and nice as you say, I think you would still be there..........

The United Nations Security Council meeting last night was pointless as it didn't achieve anything. Nothing new was said, everyone just repeated what they have said a hundred times before. Vuk desperately wanted a new investigation into the alleged organ harvesting accusations; Vlora said Kosovo was shocked by the accusations made in the Marty report as they are not true and that they're welcome to open a new investigation however nothing will be found from the investigation. Russia actually came up with a new reason as to why it opposes Kosovo's independence, the reason being that Albanians are living in lands which could be inhabited by Serbs; rather hypocritical considering the size of Russia and all the different indigenous nations which are in Russia. Gabon was extremely anti-Kosovo and said that Gabon and Serbia had excellent relations. India didn't really care, they only spoke for 3 minutes. Bosnia said nice things about everyone and was really neutral. Lebanon was neutral/ leaning slightly in Kosovo's favour. South Africa was neutral/ leaning slightly in Serbia's favour. China was anti-Kosovo but didn't seem to care too much the same applies to Nigeria. Colombia was pro-Kosovo however they didn't seem to care too much. Portugal, Germany, France, UK and US all pro-Kosovo as you'd expect. Nothing new really came from the Security Council meeting, nothing was achieved; however both sides will make out that it resulted in their favour, when in actual fact it was about as useful as the male nipple.

However, unlike Albanians my parents didn't live off Canadian handouts and never insisted that the government set up a Serbian school for their childern.

My parents have integrated into the Canadian system. Yes, my parents along with other european immigrants made Canada a better place to live. Today my parents are Canadian citizens and they still have time to visit their homeland of Serbia, as recently has the summer of 2010.

So tell me duh, what is you point?
(Another Canadian Serb, 17 February 2011 14:45)

If I go to Canada, I would also not live of Canadian handouts and I would also would not demand school in my language.
In Kosovo I am not emigrant. Kosovo is my home.

In the eyes of much of the world, yes. Certainly here in in Britain.
(The Brit, 17 February 2011 18:01)

If you're a supporter of the BNP or EDF, then you probably will think Albanians are inferior; then again they're racists. Real Britishness is about treating all as equals, I'm from Bradford and I practice what I preach.
