There are people that regard religion, pride, and their ancestors more than others. Just because you had a communist leader that flooded our country with thousands of immigrants, which happened to reproduce at a rapid rate, it doesn't mean you say, "oh well, so much for our churches, forefathers, battles, and pride in our fight for freedom," we can just live without it. Kosovo will always be in the heart of every Serb that has a brain, and anyone that doesn't care, it's because they've lost a sense of who they are. Jeff, in today's society, you cannot stop people from moving in or living in your country, however, if they make up a majority 10 years, 20 years, or 200 years later, they don't have the right to just say they don't like the rule by those under who's roof they live. If you don't like it, leave. We will not be redrawing borders forever. This is a modern era, and that's why there are resolution set by the UN, to maintain peace, and stability.

Jeff, your argument is possibly the worst thing I've ever heard. The Albanians are threatening their well being, because in the end, there will never be an independant Kosovo, and that's a fact. They are better off taking what they have received, because this time around SErbia is a smooth running, democratic nation, and the respect from several other European nations and Russia are finally evident. If the Albanians threaten the SErbs in Kosovo anymore, there will be a much more serious situation.

Jeff, the situation is clear, live under Serb borders or leave. Plain and simple. Kosovo independance is dead. You will all see that shortly after their December 10th deadline.

Some people in this world care about their loved ones, past and present, and for their people, relgion, and faith. SErbia will not drown. Serbia is doing nothing illegal, and this time around they will have more a reason to crackdown if Kosovo starts to rebel.

No one knows for certain if the west will recognize the independence. However where are the moderate voices in Serbia. The garbage that is coming out from the Serbian politicians is just unbelieveable. Do the Serb politician think at all about the well being of their citizens. Doesnt Serbia have any economic or social problems that the politicians can tackle. Its sad to see that nothing has change in terms of policies when it comes to Kosovo no matter who comes to power. One thing is certain Kosovo will declare independence and if Serbia wants to hold on to its 14th century mentality then so be it but Kosovars will choose their own destiny. And that is to be part of this new world and live in harmony with all our neighbors. The high noon is here enough is enough. For gods sake wake up and grow up to realities. Over 2 mill no longer wish to be part of your country. So since Serbia lacks a politian with the enough courage I will write instead Please either let Kosovo go or drown yourselfs in the process. The choice is yours.

He lied since US could not just announce what they have without keeping the albanians calm. As well as we all know who US r sponsoring. by the way, even if the Albanians "in power" were so naive to declare that placebo-"independence"... ( remember UNSC 1244 still in effect ) they would open the possibility for the bosnian Serbs to declare the same...

and, in the end it would look like the bosnian Serbs join Serbia ( who should prevent it? if the Russians veto a prolongation of the international presence there...Mr.Lajcak would end up as a fired "facility manager"...he could just take is hat and start the long walk home...)

so, with UNSC 1244 still in effect, by declaring "independence", you would even do the Serbs a favour.

I hate to say this but Thaci and his party declared independence many times before.
Every time he is in front of cameras he says those comments. The fact is there are chances Kosova will be independent but not thanks to PDK, LDK nor any Kosova party or movement. As much as they claim themselves as the “liberators” if it is only up to them Serbia will redo again the same thing as in 1999.
So Thaci, Kostunica and all the others no matter what side they are can make “propaganda” announcements as much as they want for they own benefits. It all comes down to how US will convince Russia to let go Kosova. And there is a rumor that all 1912 border agreements are about to expire in 2012. Then everything is on the table again for re-negotiation between super powers. Everyone must understand the “big guys” are playing MONOPOLY while on the field there are real lives on game.
Billions of military production has to be used somehow – bloodshed means a lot of profit for someone else.
Like French saying goes – le malheur des uns fais toujurs le bonheur des autres.

To Mr.Tachi - the West will never recognize the independence of Kosovo for two main reasons: 1) Serbia will announce it immediately null and void,2) the majority of the UN member-states will never recognize a sessesionist "state", because of the first item.

Thaci can say this because he thinks that we in the West are afraid of him and his ilk. However, when it comes right down to it, we could leave his criminal posterior and his believers in place for the next twelve years and walk away. It's a failed state in the making. Let the Germans, the U.K. and France prop up this failure.

In twelve years, KosovO will clearly show what all us against an Independent Kosovo already know - it will not do well without Serbia. Independence in name, as recognized by a couple NATO countries, and of course, Albania, will only make the price of bread rise.

Thaci won't have to worry about that though. He'll be in Monaco or somewhere similar. He can say what ever he wants without worry.

I am afraid the West recognizing Kosovo is not enough, it's not like suddenly Kosovo's economy will have a rapid recovery just because it is recognized. Kosovo's second biggest trade partner is Serbia, if they lose even that their economy will just get worse. It's not like you can just swap a trade partner for another geographically. I see it now, Kosovo will become like Palestine.

It is difficult to understand the logic of the Albanian population in Serbia. If they break away and are recognised by some Western countries - who at the moment causing chaos in the Middle East- then Kosovo will become a frozen conflict. Outside the EU and the UN. Dependant on Western handouts.It is hard to see a good future for Albanians living in Kosovo. Surely Albanians can work out the game the US/UK are playing?
