The Macedonians have been quite genuine in respect to solving the name dispute. On the other hand Greece has stalled the process.

Great negotiating tactics by the Macedonian government in Skopje, so instead of capitalising on the fact that 91% of the world (178 countries) have either recognised or have no issue with Macedonia being recognised as the ‘Republic of Macedonia’, and that only 9% of the world (17 counties) have sided with Greece and recognised Macedonia as ‘the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia’. The naive government in Skopje has instead opened the door for Greece to challenge Macedonians very identity with their push for Macedonia to accept a compound name, and to be embed it into the Macedonian constitution.
I am just curious if Croatia/EU were to push for the ‘Republic of Serbia’ to change its name to the ‘Republic of East Serbia’ or ‘Republic of Upper Serbia’ to distinguish it from ‘Republika Srbska’ in BiH before they can progress towards EU membership, what do most readers here think would be Serbia’s official response?
