As Europe is unable and unwilling to finance the rebuilding of the Balkan countries, they - Serbia above all - are turning to their old allies, such as China.

Very nice article!👏🏻 I had no clue China has been investing so much into Balcanic countries and Serbia. However, it does not surprise me that much.
Since the beginning of the 21st century, it has been following the strategy of investing in the EU. Lately, I have read an article, which predicts that now they are even improving their strategy and they are now investing in innovation in the EU (https://valuer.ai/blog/why-is-china-investing-so-much-in-europe/). Do you think China can become even bigger threat for the EU due to this reason?🤔

China holds a huge amount of U.S. debt and it is a growing economy. The U.S. stores are filled with Chinese goods. U.S. consumers don't want to pay more, so there's not a better alternative to Chinese goods for many products at such low prices.

I have always said it, it´s just a question of time. Serbia will prevail. And to my surprise, the american decline has started much earlier than I had believed it would happen.

My dear albanian friends, after all your pathetic bootlicking, not only american but also german boots, it will be a pleasure to see your "greater albanian" dream go down the pipe...

I will lean back, have some pop corn and laugh at you!

ps: how do you say "stupid albanians" in albanian?

China can't even feed its own people let alone give aid to Serbia, a country on life support. If China treats Serbia as it treats its own people then Serbia will wish it had agreed to the proposed Rambouillet Agreement of 1999.

EU Citizen , you need a EU education first.
Second ,where have you been living since the 1970's , Hahaha.
China is one of the world superpower countries .
China is investing everywhere ,with money ))

"Some German diplomats warn that China, like Russia, could quickly become a threat to stability in the Balkans."
--
What this translates into is Western influence over the region could be lost. With investments coming from Russia, China, the Middle East and elsewhere into Serbia, a non-EU member, and if progress exceeds that of EU-members (which it will), many will start to question their own membership. Brexit is just the beginning.

Well that country you say that cant feed its people is the World No1 economy. Why are there so many ignorant Albanians? Even the ones who live in the west seem to be shrouded in lack of knowledge.

Ah, the great and honorable west, busy starting wars, overthrowing governments and generally causing chaos throughout the world for the last quarter of a century. They're just misunderstood! They spent decades propping up their own former colonies in Africa with breath taking bribery that punished the people but kept its leaders rich in return for keeping their special economic relations.

Then too, evil China brought massive investment oto Africa from the 1990s onwards when the west refused to do so, "too risky" they said. An now along with India and Japan are scrambling after China.

You see, when 'we invest' it is from the goodness o of our hearts and because it is sensible. When 'they' invest, it is for influence and profit!

It's nothing more than the usual sinophobia. The sensible west created the global financial crisis and came very close to running out of cash. How dare the Chinese not ask us first? Yes, with the west, out is all about them....

"It's quite something this obsession with Serbia the west seems to have."

That's why I find it morally wrong for the "best and brightest" of Serbs to go to the west and help those countries - the same ones who maimed and poisoned Serbian children.
(ida, 18 July 2017 20:08)

Well, apparently the "best and brightest" of Serbs don't experience the same dreams as you do :)

Actually, the EU is building up Bulgaria and Romania, and to a lesser extent Hungary and Croatia, pretty darn well.

It ends with the sentence

"Some German diplomats warn that China, like Russia, could quickly become a threat to stability in the Balkans."

They probably look sadly back to the 90's when there was no influence of China or Russia, and only policies that mattered in Balkans were Western. And those brought stability....

It's quite something this obsession with Serbia the west seems to have.
Having destroyed our economy to the tune of 100 bn, then done almost nothing to help us to rebuild, they are worried about others who are willing to do so.
These neoliberals have serious issues with their obsession about tiny Serbia. Let it go. We have asked for your help, you turned away.
Now expect Serbia to be a phoenix and rise from the ashes. And we will remember who our friends are.
It will be a long road, with many obstacles put in our way by our western friends and their servants, but we will triumph in the end. Of that I have no doubt.
