Plenty of Rus second names (Savin, Savinov, Savchenko, Savenkov, Savchuk, Savenko ...) are still widely used. Mameluke Sultan killed near Aleppo on August 24 1516 was also Can Sava. I don't know who that Sava was but I am sure that he belonged to the ruling Rjurikovici dynasty. St. Savva is very respected saint in Russia but even more he is respected in Serbia. So it was a very good move I think.
