Parliament has finished work this Tuesday without a debate on the proposed agenda. Instead, the opposition Serb Radical Party (SRS) lawmakers spent the day protesting violations of the parliamentary rules of procedure. SRS target Tadic from parliamentary rostrum They also hurled curses and insults at President Boris Tadic from the parliamentary floor. “Let his seed run dry, may the sun never warm him, let him await God’s punishment. Tadic is the greatest traitor. The curse will reach everyone some day,“ warned SRS MP Natasa Jovanovic. Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic, SPS, did not cut her off until she uttered those words. Jovanovic added that “a Serb curse never expires” and that MPs had “presumably” learned that at primary and secondary school. The SRS MP said that the president was “hated by all Serbs”, accusing the parties of the ruling coalition of taking part in a “conspiracy against the Serb people”, of wanting to show off their power and demonstrating that they were “real tyrants”. At the same time, she was full of praise for Hague accused Radovan Karadzic and SRS leader Vojislav Seselj, calling them Serbian heroes. SRS colleague Vjerica Radeta echoed Jovanovic’s words, alleging that it was not the Radicals, but Tadic, that was obstructing the session. “That accursed (Tadic) is responsible for the death of Ranko Panic, and for what happened on the day of the [SRS] meeting. Dictator Tadic is responsible for everything,” said Radeta. She said that the tears of Panic’s mother “will reach everyone involved in his death”. “Boris Tadic closed her door for good. That cannot pass without the curse that has forever followed Serb traitors. And a curse on every Radical, on his seed and family, who ever meets with Tadic after the shameful extradition of Karadzic to The Hague,” Radeta warned. She accused the president of preparing to “sell” Vojvodina, while calling the late Zoran Djindjic a “Mafia prime minister”. Parliament today (FoNet) Obstruction continued Parliament resumed its session at 10:00 CET, with an agenda featuring a number of important international agreements. Parliament continued its work after a month's recess, but instead of debating the items on the agenda, Serb Radical Party (SRS) MPs began by citing breaches of the Code of Procedure. SPS deputy leader Tomislav Nikolic called for a government response to the events during the protest against the arrest of Radovan Karadzic on July 29. The session began by confirming that the mandates of Socialist Party MP Zeljko Vasiljevic and the DS's Milos Simunovic had ceased to be valid because they had taken up new posts. Parliament also stated that SRS MP Dragan Tasic had passed away. Opposition MPs insisted on a debate on their themes, instead of following the agenda. Yesterday, Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic held consultations with party whips, but no agreement was reached as to how the session would continue, only that “political consultations“ would continue until the start of the session. Even after consultations, Serb Radical Party (SRS) members stated that they would first seek answers concerning the death of demonstrator Ranko Panic and the arrest of Hague fugitive Radovan Karadzic. They earlier announced that they would ask for a new session, where the only item on the agenda would be ratification of the energy deal with Russia. Meanwhile, the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has asked for consultations to make corrections to parliament’s agenda, but with a proposal that the only item be ratification of the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) with the EU. The Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) says that it will spend “little time“ on non-parliamentary goings-on, such as the violations of Belgraders’ electoral will, Panic’s death during the SRS protest, and the return of ambassadors to EU countries that have recognized Kosovo independence. The first item on the session’s agenda will be ratification of the SAA, the second ratification of the energy agreement with Russia, the third confirmation of financial agreements for a number of projects in Serbia, and the fourth and final item will be the government’s draft resolution on Kosovo. The session got under way in July, but was suspended after four days. In that time, MPs did not even begin to discuss the items that were on the agenda and were only able to adopt the agenda itself, as opposition MPs spent the whole time citing breaches of the Code of Procedure.
