President Boris Tadic has announced the state’s “continued battle with crime and corruption,” stating that this task is in the highest national interest. "My message to the world of crime is that the state will not shirk its duties, tackling crime in every place, and that, in my opinion, is a national task of the highest possible importance,” he told reporters in Kopaonik, during a recess at the Business Forum. He added that when someone corrupted an official in public administration, that was a bond between crime, justice and politics, just as there was a link with the economy when someone evaded paying tax or when money illegally acquired during the 90s was “laundered” in the economy. “That was why, he said, a law on seizure of assets acquired through criminal enterprise has been adopted, in order to clean up the economic system and establish a legal state that every Serbian citizen aspires to,” said the president.
