In western Balkans, corruption is present in everyday life and represents the main problem to the common people in the region. This is coupled with unemployment and poor living standard, Gallup Europe Managing Director Robert Manchin stated. Gallup: Corruption main problem in W. Balkans According to the agency's new survey, corruption and organized crime represent principal obstacles to large investments in the region, and are making everyday life "almost unbearable". Over 90 percent of those who took part in the survey in Serbia, Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina say that business climate is submerged in corruption and that the legal system cannot be expected to do any good. Only 21 percent thought that judicial system is doing its job well, while others believe it to be yet another firm foothold of corruption. Voice of America reported Machin saying that a disturbing fact is that confidence in the impartiality of key sectors, such as courts, still represents a great problem. Manchin pointed out that citizens of western Balkans have great confidence in the European Union (EU) - greater even than in their own governments - and believe that the EU could be of assistance in eliminating corruption.
