New trial of ex-KLA members to start in August

The retrial of former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) members Ramush Haradinaj, Idriz Balaj and Lahi Brahimaj will begin on August 18 in the Hague Tribunal. A pretrial conference will be held on August 17, Judge Bakone Justice Moloto has announced. New trial of ex-KLA members to start in August The Hague Tribunal Appeals Chamber quashed Haradinaj and Balaj’s acquittal in July 2010 and explained that the initial proceeding had been marked by intimidation of witnesses. Brahimaj’s trial will be partially repeated as well. The Appeals Chamber has confirmed his verdict, sentencing him to six years in prison. Haradinaj, Brahimaj and Balaj are accused of joint criminal enterprise aimed at abusing Kosovo Serbs, Albanians and Roma. According to the reduced indictment, the joint criminal enterprise was manifested by murder and torture of prisoners in the Jablanica camp in 1998. At the initial trial Haradinaj and Balaj were acquitted on all 37 counts of the indictment and Brahimaj was sentenced to six years in prison. Ramush Haradinaj
