Crime boss retrial postponed

The retrial of Sreten Jocic, aka Joca Amsterdam, was postponed on Monday at the Belgrade District Prison courtroom. The process, conducted by the Belgrade Higher Court trial chamber, was rescheduled after all four defense lawyers for the defendant failed to show up today. Crime boss retrial postponed "This is a classic case of obstruction of proceedings and you will get a court-appointed lawyer," Judge Maja Ilic told Jocic. Jocic has been accused of incitement to murder of Goran Marjanovic, and the trial was previously postponed for today due to absence of lawyer Vladimir Petrovic on March 24. The trial will start from the beginning since the case has been assigned to Judge Ilic, after the recent election of judges in Serbia. Jocic is accused of paying DEM 50,000 to Miodrag Prodanovic and Bojan Milosavljevic in July 1995 to kill Goran Marjanovic aka Goksi the Bomber, and another man nicknamed Duca. The accused has been in custody since April 27, 2009, when he was arrested for suspected involvement in another case: Jocic is believed by the prosecution to have organized a criminal group which killed the owner of weekly Nacional Ivo Pukanic and his associate Niko Franjic in Zagreb on October 23, 2008. Tthe beginning of the trial under this indictment is scheduled to begin on April 20, also in the prison courtroom.
