Serbia to improve status of LGBT population By this symbolic but nevertheless important act, we wished to demonstrate that Serbia is willing to improve the position of LGBT population, Director of the Directorate for Human and Minority Rights Nenad Djurdjevic said. At the same time, we wanted to show that the Ministry strongly supports efforts aimed at ensuring rights of all minority groups, including sexual minorities in Serbia, Djurdjevic told reporters. Jovanka Todorovic Savovic of Labris, an organization advocating lesbian human rights, recalled that the international day of LGBT population is being celebrated for 40 years now by Pride Parade marches. She indicated that the Pride Day is observed in Serbia by a symbolic act of raising the rainbow flag, since LGBT population is deprived of their right to spontaneous assembly. The Labris representative said that the symbolic celebration of the Pride Day is not a substitute for Pride Parade, which would probably be held in Serbia in September.
