Laureate selected for NIN literary award
Other authors and novels that made it to the NIN award shortlist were “Komo” by Srđan Valjarević, “Četiri zida i grad” (Four walls and a city) by Zvonko Karanović, “Emilija Leta” by Mirjana Mitrović and “Most” (The Bridge) by Zoran Živković.Svetislav Basara, born in Bajina Bašta in 1953, has written more than twenty novels, short story collections and essays. He also received the “Branko Ćopić” literary award.
The NIN literary prize is awarded by an expert jury that convene to select the best work of literature in the previous year. The NIN award has grown into one of the most important literary awards in Serbia in the field of contemporary domestic literature.
Milan Vlajčić presided over the jury of five members, namely Aleksandar Jovanović, Stevan Tontić, Tihomir Brajović and Slobodan Vladušić.
This year’s Best Novel Award is accompanied by a cash prize of 7000 eur, one thousand more than last year. The NIN literary award was established in 1954. Dobrica Ćosić was its first laureate with the novel “Koreni” (Roots).
